Golfers from across the region raised more than £6,500 at the annual Sport Newcastle Golf Day — helping to shape the next generation of North East talent.

Long-time supporters of the charity, SOS: Copy Print Scan and Tier One Capital, were back to underpin a staple of the summer golfing calendar.

And a spectacular day of tee to pin action was hosted in style by staff at Ponteland Golf Club.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for digging deep and doing so much to support Sport Newcastle again this summer,” said the charity’s Mike Booth.

“I’d like to congratulate Paul Sykes and his winning team at The Unite Group for playing the best golf of the day.

“But Sport Newcastle’s annual Golf Day isn’t so much about the results as it is about the sense of community and the shared determination to support the region’s emerging talent.

“The fact that we raised £6,504 is testimony to the generosity of those who took part — it’s a huge sum that can do so much good.”

Tier One Capital provided each team with a box of 12 ProV1 golf balls as teams chased the coveted George Bayley Trophy.

And The Unite Group fought off a strong challenge from second-placed The Whispering Voice Of Golf to let the 2024 title.

“Once again it’s hats off to the fantastic staff at Ponteland for making us feel so welcome and providing such outstanding service,” added Mike.

“The course was in perfect condition and it was a pleasure to play there again. There’s a reason Ponteland has become the unofficial home of Sport Newcastle Golf.”
