Awards to Rising Stars

Sport Newcastle selects a number of Rising Stars each year with winners recognised at the annual Sport Newcastle Awards.

The aim of the Rising Stars category is to celebrate young, emerging talent in as wide a range of sports as possible.

Successful individuals should be competing at regional  — and often national or international — level in their chosen sport.

We are now accepting Rising Star nominations for the 2023/24 academic year. Please fill in the form below once you are satisfied the nomination fits the qualifying criteria. The closing date is September 30, 2024.

Eligibility criteria:

1. Nominees must be aged 11-21 on September 1 in the year preceding the Sport Newcastle Awards.
2. Preference will be given to athletes who:

* live in Newcastle or

* are educated in Newcastle or

* are affiliated to, or represent, a team or club based in Newcastle.

(In exceptional cases young people living in the wider Tyneside area may be chosen to recognise their outstanding contribution to local sport.)

 3. All nominations must be endorsed by either: 

* a coach/trainer or

* an official of the club/team/organisation or

* a teacher. 


Further guidance:

An individual cannot be nominated by a relative/carer.

All nominations must be submitted via the Sport Newcastle Rising Star Nomination form (see below). These forms require as much detail as possible about the performance of the nominated individual, especially the highest level of performance that has been achieved.

Clearly being invited to train with the GB squad on three occasions is more prestigious than getting player of the year for the school team.

Please be accurate about tournament/championship success, stating clearly the title of the event, age category, and, if possible, the date held.
